Brindleyplace Entertainment Zone

Brindley PlaceBrindleyplace, Birmingham’s award winning leisure and business destination,  is the Official Entertainment Zone for the Championships and all the entertainment is free for everyone in the city.

The fun will begin with a mascot race on Friday 2nd March where mascots from around the county will sprint around Brindleyplace's Central Square.  Mascots expected to take part in the race include Beau Brummie from Birmingham City Football Club, Hercules the Lion from Aston Villa Football Club, Carmen and Hugh from Warwickshire County Cricket Club, Cedric from the National Children Homes, Hearty from the British Heart Foundation and Invincibull from the European Athletics Indoor Championships.

The race will be compered by 100.7 Heart fm’s Charlie Jordan.

On Saturday 3rd March there will be a day of live music and entertainment from around the world including belly dancing, break dancing and salsa dancing.  There will also be the opportunity for visitors to take part in an athletics quiz to put your sporting knowledge to the test.

On Sunday 4th March, Brindleyplace will be running a children’s activity day. There will be athletics challenges for youngsters to have a go at as well as entertainment for the whole family.

The activities in Brindleyplace will be supported by 100.7 Heart fm who will host a Club Classics set and a bar quiz at the Slug and Lettuce.

For the duration of the weekend there will also be a Temporary Loyalty Card in existence which will provide all visitors with discounts at the majority of the cafés, bars, restaurants and shops at Brindleyplace.  A Temporary Loyalty Card can be picked up from the Management Office between 2-4 March and all discounts and offers are listed inside the card.

2nd March 2007 – The Mascot Race

5.30pm:  Birmingham Pussycats open the proceedings

6.00pm:  Bannatyne’s Health Club lead a warm-up for the mascots

6.30pm:  The mascot race will commence. 

6pm to 8pm:  The Elements, popular covers band

4th March 2007 – Children’s Athletics and Family Entertainment
The Children’s Athletics will run from 9.00am to 5.30pm and will include the following activities:
• Sprint Challenge
• Hi-Stepper
• Standing Long Jump
• Soft Javelin
• Speed Bounce
If you would like to enter please just turn up on the day, every entrant that completes the course will receive a certificate and a goody bag.
Entertainment in Central Square

11.00am to 11.30am Birmingham Pussycats.  Children can come and learn a routine with the Pussycats and then perform it with them afterwards

12noon to 12.30pm Hina & Co. Bollywood Dancing Group
1.00pm to 2.00pm  100.7 Heart fm Hulaerobics
2.00pm to 2.30pm  Hina & Co.  Bollywood Dancing Group
3.00pm to 3.30pm Birmingham Pussycats.  A second chance for children to learn a routine with the Pussycats
And don’t forget to enter the all day Athletics Quiz in Central Square.
