Birmingham 2007 European indoor championships


This will be the 29th staging of the European Athletics Indoor Championships and previous cities to host this prestigious championships include:

Valencia (ESP)


Gent (BEL)


Vienna (AUT)


Madrid (ESP)

Glasgow, who staged the championships in 1990 are the only other British city who have hosted this event.

Great Britain Success

Great Britain 's most successful athletes at the European Athletics Indoor Championships in recent history include:

Jason Gardener - triple gold medallist in the 60m (2000, 2002, 2005) and silver medal at the 1998 championships

John Mayock - competed at five championships winning four medals (1 gold, 2 silver and 1 bronze)

Colin Jackson - double gold medallist at the 1994 championships in Paris (60m and 60m hurdles) and winner of the 60m hurdles in 1989 and 2002.

Ashia Hansen - Winner of the women's triple jump in 1998 and runner up in 2002

The event at the National Indoor Arena will also mark the 30th anniversary of Sebastian Coe's breakthrough as a world-class athlete when he won the 800m at the 8 th edition of the event in San Sebastian in 1977.
